A Craggy Stone Peak at the Vermont Flower Show

Take a deep whiff of springtime in winter, it’s the Vermont Flower Show! The Champlain Valley Expo in Essex Junction, Vermont has been transformed from an empty, football field-sized building into a Shangrila, alive with blooming trees and flowers.

The past two days have been a swirl of activity as months of planning finally came together, including the 25-ton dry stone installation created by Jared Flynn, Jamie Masefield, T.J. Mora, Brian Post and me. Behind the scenes, Charley McMartin coordinated the collection and delivery of the stone and will take care of the break-down Sunday night.

The design incorporates two “S” shaped stone fences that climb a craggy peak and cross at the top. Special guest artist, Kerry O. Furlani, adds the words of Robert Frost to the piece, carved in slate.

Come visit the show Friday-Sunday and stop by the stone team’s booth, #29. We’re there to talk rock!

I will be presenting a slide-talk at 3pm on Friday about stone’s storied past, recently completed environmental art commissions and dry stone’s bright future. I hope you can join me.
