The 2010 EHAC Dry Stone Art Workshops
The 2010 EHAC Dry Stone Art Workshops are coming to a close. Jack Stanley has, once again, brought together the people and resources needed to make our time working together and playing here a very gratifying experience.
Just this week the group has restored the collapsed corner of an old retaining wall, designed and built a sculpture inspired by the lines of a traditional Newfoundland fishing boat, the “Trap Skiff” and created a spiraling free-standing wall. They’ve sharpened their skills for constructing in dry stone, puzzled through the creative process of developing an idea, invented and set guide apparatus, and matched materials to technique. For me it has been a pleasure to instruct such a willing and industrious group, not to mention the knowledge I’ve gained from them about Canadian life and times.
